The Alqueva Floating Solar Park, a TALOS pilot site, has won the 2024 International Edison Award. Located in southern Portugal, the park integrates hydropower, floating solar, and battery storage, generating 7.5 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually. This award highlights EDP's commitment to renewable energy and their goal to be 100% green by 2030.

We are proud to announce that the Alqueva Floating Solar Park, one of the pilot sites of the TALOS project, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 International Edison Award by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI). The award was presented at the EEI 2024 annual meeting in Las Vegas.

Located in southern Portugal, the Alqueva Floating Solar Plant is Europe’s largest floating solar energy production facility situated in a dam reservoir. The project integrates hydropower, floating solar, and battery storage, utilising 12,000 solar panels supported by 25,000 floats. This setup generates 7.5 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually, enough to power approximately 1,500 households and meet 30% of the region’s annual energy needs.

This award highlights our partner EDP‘s commitment to innovation in renewable energy, as the company strives to be 100% green by 2030. The success of the Alqueva Park demonstrates the potential of combining various renewable energy sources to create a reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy future.
